North Nation Inc works to revive volleyball by hosting three tournaments

North Nation Inc is currently planning three tournaments, as they feed off the success of their recently held first-ever annual Powerzone Championship.

North Nation Inc was formed late last year by four siblings from Mabaruma to make volleyball more recognized across Guyana and stimulating activities at the grassroots level.

The group has so far only held one tournament, the Powerzone Championship.

This highly anticipated event will be returning later this year and it is set to become an annual fixture.

National Player Vance Harding, one of the four founders of the North Nation Inc volleyball group said,

“There’s no training right now because of the facilities and the covid-19 so we’re waiting for the gymnasium to be re-opened then we’ll start back training as per normal.”

The next upcoming tournament, however, will be a Beach tournament on March 19th. These matches will feature mixed teams of four players each on the beach behind Marriott.

This will be followed by an indoor tournament on March 27th which feature both male and female teams.

“We would like a big turnout because the more people come, the more exposure and the more people will know volleyball. But, that’s if we get permission to have invitees.”

For local players who are not currently active competitively, these tournaments will be a welcome opportunity to get back to the court – especially for female teams who have not had many chances to compete since the onset of the pandemic.

Trophies will be up for grabs as long as task force approval is granted for the hosting of the events.
