Motorcyclist killed after car makes U-turn on Windsor Forest Public Road

An accident on the Windsor Forest Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD), on Monday claimed the life of 36-year-old Leon Smith.


The fatal accident involved motor car bearing registration number PDD 3036, driven by a 63-year-old man, and a motorcycle driven by Smith, a resident of Lot 18 Princess Street, Georgetown.


According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the motor car was stationed on the northern side of the road, facing east, when the driver suddenly executed a U-turn.


In the process, he collided with Smith’s motorcycle, which was travelling east at high speed.

The Police Force said that Smith, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown onto the road surface, sustaining severe injuries.


He was picked up unconscious by an ambulance from the La Grange Fire Station and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.


After initial treatment, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 18:20h on Monday.


The body of the 36-year-old man is at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.


The driver of the motor car was examined, treated, and released at the Leonora Cottage Hospital. He has since been arrested and is assisting police with the investigation.
