A mother of two, who was on her way to pick up her son from school, was involved in an accident at Canefield, East Canje Berbice.

The woman has been identified as 25-year-old Nazima Ali of Adelphi village, Canje. The accident occurred at about 14:30h on Tuesday.

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) and an ambulance were called to the scene to remove the woman who was trapped in the vehicle.

At the scene, the woman’s uncle, Basdeo Persaud, told reporters that he was at home when he received a call informing him that his niece was involved in an accident.

Upon arrival, he saw the badly damaged car in the trench with his niece inside. The woman was removed from the vehicle by health officials along with assistance from members of the GFS and placed in the ambulance.

She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital for medical attention. It is unclear what caused the woman to lose control of the vehicle, but investigations are ongoing.
