Monkeys snatch newborn from man, throw off the rooftop in Bareilly

(India Times) - A four-month-old baby boy died in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, India, after he was taken away by a group of monkeys from his father. He was later thrown off a three-storey house.


As per reports, the incident occurred on Friday evening in Bareilly’s Dunka area that comes under Shahi police station.


According to the family, the father was walking on the roof of the three-storey house carrying the baby in his arms. Suddenly, a troop of monkeys came on the roof and attacked the father.


Cried for help

The man cried for help, but before other family members could come to their rescue, the monkeys had snatched the baby boy and thrown him off the roof. The infant died on the spot.


The monkeys also attacked other family members when they reached the roof. The monkeys had also hit the father.


Preparing name day celebration

The deceased infant had one sibling, seven years older than him. The family were preparing for his name-day ceremony before the mishap took place.


However, Bareilly Chief Conservator of Forests Lalit Verma said the incident has been reported, and a team of forest department has been sent to conduct a probe, PTI reported.


Such incidents reported in past too

Monkeys snatching the babies and getting them killed have been reported across the globe in the past too.

On June 21, a baby boy was killed by a gang of monkeys who snatched him from his mom while she was breastfeeding him.


The one-month-old was with his mom outside the family home in a village in Tanzania when the horror unfolded around 3 p.m., police said.


On January 10, a group of monkeys grabbed a two-month-old infant from the terrace of his house and flung the baby into a water tank in Uttar Pradesh.
