A miner was on Tuesday slapped with a murder charge for allegedly fatally stabbing his co-worker during an argument over a woman at Reserve Baramita, North West District (NWD).

29-year-old Romel Pritchard of Barimanobo Village, Mabaruma North West District, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

He was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which stated that on April 13, 2022, at Reserve Baramita, NWD, he murdered 21-year-old Roy Harry.

The Magistrate remanded Pritchard until May 3, 2022.

Reports are that the victim and the accused worked together at a mining camp. On the day in question, between 03:00h and 04:00h, the duo was reportedly consuming alcohol at a bar when a misunderstanding ensued over a woman.

Nonetheless, the colleagues left together for their mining camp, where they further argued with each other.

During the argument, Pritchard allegedly whipped out a knife and stabbed Harry.

Later that day, the accused was seen walking along a trail at Reserve, Baramita, where he was intercepted and arrested.
