Jamal Rollox, a 37-year-old miner, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a wake held in honour of the late Lawrence Wayne, also known as ‘Boy Boy.’

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred at Dynasty Bar on Aubrey Barker Road, Georgetown, where police officers were monitoring the gathering.

According to the GPF, at approximately 01:25h, police ranks observed Rollox discharging several rounds into the air. Upon noticing the officers, Rollox attempted to discard the weapon by throwing it under a parked car.

The police retrieved the firearm and arrested Rollox. Upon questioning, Rollox admitted that he was not a licensed firearm holder. The weapon was identified as a Glock 40 pistol and loaded with 10 live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Following the arrest, Rollox was transported to the East La Penitence Police Station. The items will be sent to the ballistics section for further analysis, the Police noted.

The 37-year-old miner remains in police custody and is expected to be charged this week.
