Mechanic charged with murder of Miner found in shallow grave at Toroparu Backdam

Murder accused, Quacy Shepherd

Twenty-nine-year-old Quacy Shepherd was on Friday remanded to prison for the murder of Noel Anthony Fredericks, who was found dead late last month in a shallow grave.

Shepherd, a mechanic of Lot 9 Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was hauled before Magistrate Crystal Lambert in the Bartica Magistrate's Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge stated that on April 15, 2022, at Toroparu backdam, Lower Puruni River, he murdered 27-year-old Fredericks. He was remanded to prison until May 20, 2022.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) had reported that the accused was arrested for questioning, during which he stated that on April 15, he and Fredericks were drinking alcohol at a shop in Toroparu Backdam.

When they left the shop, he was towing Fredericks back to his camp when the victim asked him to have anal sex with him.

Police said that Shepherd agreed, and when they were through, an argument ensued during which he choked Fredericks while simultaneously covering his mouth and nose, resulting in his death.

He then tied the deceased hands behind his back and took his body to a hole that an excavator had dug and buried it.

After being interrogated, the accused took investigators back to the hole, which was filled with water. It was drained, and the naked body of the deceased man was found in a decomposing state with his hands bound behind his back.
