Mason, 33, chopped to death along La Penitence Public Road

A 33-year-old man was this morning chopped to death along the La Penitence Public Road.

The dead man has been identified as Rodwell Philips, also known as “Fishie” of Broad Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.

According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident occurred between 00:30h and 01:00. The CCU said that a cutlass was found next to Philips’s body.

“Scene was processed by investigators where Philips’ body was examined, and one chop wound was seen to the center of his chest, one chop wound to his right-side face, one chop wound to his left side back, and one chop wound to his left foot,” the statement from the CCU said.

The CCU noted that several persons in the area were questioned, and CCTV footage is to be reviewed.

Philips’s body is presently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). Notwithstanding, an investigation is in progress.
