Man posing as ‘doctor’ to be charged

Mikhail Tadius McLennan

Mikhail Tadius McLennan, who was accused of posing as a Medical Doctor, will appear in the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to answer to a charge of improper use of Medical Title, contrary to Section 13 (1) (c) of the Medical Practitioner Act Chapter 32:02.

This was revealed by the Director of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Mark Ramotar.

“Additionally, further investigations are to be conducted and file to be returned for further legal advice,” Ramotar noted.

Back in July, McLennan took social media via storm after the President of the Guyana Cancer Foundation (GCF), Bibi Saeedah Akhtar Hassan, distanced the Foundation from him, who allegedly pretended that he was a medical doctor.

According to Hassan, she took him as a volunteer with the Foundation, but people began questioning his licence to practice medicine, and several persons confirmed that he was not a doctor.

In his Curriculum Vitae, Mc Lennon stated that he attended Queen’s College, Texila American University, followed by the University of Guyana.

He also stated in the document that he holds a “Degree in medicine,” a Diploma in Theatre Arts, and a certificate in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.

According to the CV, he worked at various government institutions, including the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, New Amsterdam Family Health Center, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), and ROK Pharmacy, among others.

When contacted, the Medical Council of Guyana noted that Mc Lennon is not a part of the Council’s database. Texila also confirmed that they never had a student by that name. The University of Guyana also disclosed that he was never a student at the institution.
