Man killed after colliding with truck that was removing another car involved in accident

Dead: Stephon Stewart

A 32-year-old man was killed early this morning on the Rupert Craig Highway after he crashed into a truck, removing another car involved in an accident.

Dead is Stephon Stewart of Charles Street, Georgetown. The accident occurred at about 03:10h.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) disclosed that the deceased was driving motorcar PRR 7135 while motorcar PKK 9331 was driven by Adrian Montrose and the truck GAC 1297 was being operated by Richard MacDonald.

The driver of motorcar PKK 9331 told investigators that he was proceeding on Rupert Craig Highway when an unknown truck swerved into his path, causing him to swerve left to avoid a collision.

In doing so, he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and ended up submerged in a trench. While removing the motorcar from the trench by truck, which was parked with the hazard lights on, Stewart allegedly crashed into the rear portion of the vehicle.

Stewart was seen motionless in his vehicle after the collision and was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel.

His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).

“The driver of the motor lorry and motorcar are in custody assisting with the investigation,” the CCU concluded.
