Man gets $1M bail for causing death by dangerous driving
A 32-year-old man was released on Wednesday on $1 million bail after he was slapped with causing death by dangerous driving charge.
Shamby Yamat of Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara (EBD), appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court.
The court heard that on August 8, 2022, at Sarah Johanna Public Road, he drove motor lorry GYY 6047 in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of 35-year-old Franciso Simosa.
The matter was adjourned to August 29, 2022. Reports are that Simosa was standing on the Public Road waiting for transportation to head to work when Yamat, who was driving the truck, stopped in front of him.
Yamat reversed and struck Simosa. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens as well as the Police and taken to the Diamond Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
