‘Mama G’, fisherman arrested for allegedly raiding tomb in West Berbice

L-R: Lindon Davis and Khalil Madramootoo

Two fishermen have been arrested for allegedly raiding the tomb of 52-year-old Muneshwar Jawahir of Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice (WBB), between Sunday and Monday.

Police said that at about 12:30h on Thursday, ranks, acting on information received, went to Lot 41 McKenzie Street, Murphy Dam, Rosignol Village, and arrested Khalil Madramootoo, a fisherman.

When questioned, Police said Madramootoo admitted to being part of the desecration of the tomb and corpse of Jawahir.

He claimed that Lindon Davis, also known as ‘Mama G,’ was the person who broke into the tomb, and together they stole about $28,000 cash from the coffin.

Davis, a 38-year-old fisherman from McKenzie Street, Murphy Dam, was subsequently arrested, but he denied any involvement in the incident.

They both remain in custody as the Police continue to investigate the incident. Jawahir was laid to rest at the Murphy Dam cemetery in Region Five on February 9, 2024.

However, a family who returned to the final resting place on Tuesday discovered Jawahir’s head on top of a tomb.
