Police in Region Three are probing the murder of a 29-year-old labourer whose body was discovered with multiple chop wounds at his Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBD) home early Monday morning.
Dead is Herbert Hartman, of Tuschen New Scheme. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the murder occurred sometime between 20:30 hrs on Sunday, March 8, 2026, and 06:00 hrs on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Hartman and the suspect, a 23-year-old construction worker of the Tuschen Housing Scheme, were known to each other.
Police said the two men were earlier at a worksite in the area where they were allegedly drinking alcohol when an argument broke out. During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly threatened Hartman before leaving the location.
Investigators believe the suspect later returned, allegedly armed with a cutlass, and went to Hartman’s residence, where another altercation reportedly occurred.
At about 06:00 hrs on Monday, Hartman was discovered lying motionless in a pool of blood at his home with several chop wounds about his body.
He was escorted to the DeKinderen Regional Hospital, where a doctor on duty examined him and pronounced him dead. The body was subsequently transported to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The suspect was arrested and remains in custody as the investigation continues.
