Labourer, 46, pinned to death by tractor
A 46-year-old labourer lost his life on Saturday after the tractor he was using to plough a rice field turned turtle, pinning him underneath.
Dead is Abdool Sheriff Hussain of Little Biaboo, Mahaica Creek, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The incident occurred at about 07:30h.
Reports are that Hussain left his home and joined his friend on his rice field at Handsome Tree, Mahaica Creek.
The friend reportedly told investigators that at about 9:30h, while they were ploughing the rice field, he saw Hussain’s tractor turn over, and at the time, he was about 20 feet away.
He added that he drove and went to the labourer’s rescue, where he saw him pinned down under the tractor.
He left the rice field and went for help, and about five minutes later, he returned, and with the help of public-spirited citizens, they turned over the tractor, took out the 30-year-old man, and tried to revive him, but he was motionless.
The Police were summoned to the scene, and the body was examined for signs of violence, but none were seen.
The body was escorted to Mahaicony Public Hospital, where the official pronunciation of death was made.
The body was then taken to Bailey's Funeral Parlour, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination (PME).
