Investigation into central distribution of pension monies in hinterland communities - President

The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is working to have old age pension monies delivered to the pensioners in their admistrative regions. This is according to President Dr. Irfaan Ali who said the government recently discovered that the personnel who were suppose to deliver the pension monies into the villages were asking Toshaos to collect it at a central location. In this regard, the Head of State said, "We have launched an investigation". The Head of State made it clear that, "The instruction is clear, the pensioners must be paid in the villages that is the instruction and Toshaos I want you to understand this." Dr. Ali reaffirmed the government's commitment to increase the pension monies from $28,000 to $40,000, a promise they made while campaigning for the 2020 General and Reginal Elections. Some $2.3 billion was allocated in the National 2022 Budget to increase old age pension from $25,000 to $28,000. It was initially $20,000 from the period 2015 to 2020.
