‘Gunplay’ led to man being shot near popular bar in Kitty

A man is currently in a serious but stable condition at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after being shot on Lamaha Street Kitty, between Gordon and Pike Streets.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that the incident occurred at about 01:30h on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Deon Jerrick, while a 28-year-old male is in Police custody.

The CCU said that Jerrick was in the vicinity of Mantra Restaurant and Lounge in the company of friends when he was involved in an argument with the suspect.

This resulted in a ‘gunplay,’ and the victim and the suspect discharged firearms. Jerrick received a wound just below his left side armpit in the process.

According to the CCU, the suspect then ran south along Lamaha street but was later apprehended by the Police.

The injured Jerrick was then taken to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by one of his friends. The suspect is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
