A quantity of marijuana and several other prohibited items were found during a raid conducted by members of the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) and Guyana Police Force (GPF) at the Mazaruni Prison on Tuesday.
Reports are that the search was done in the security blocks, special watch, condemn section, Stores, infirmary, and dormitory.
While searching the upper dormitory, a Prison Officer found a black plastic bag lodged in the sealing of the structure. Upon further examination, the bag contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana.
The suspected marijuana was transported to the Bartica Police Station, weighed, and amounted to 1,580 grams.
Several other prohibited items were found during the search, which include:
1. Five Blue phones, two Samsung, one Vodafone, two Alcatel, two ZTE, three Digicel, one LG, and one Hyundai.
2. 22 packs of cigarettes.
3. 24 improvised weapons.
4. Six scissors.
5. Five cigarette lighters.
6. Two broken mirrors.
7. Four cellphones’ chargers.
8. Two smoking utensils.
9. Two knives.
