Former City Engineer dies in accident on Perseverance Public Road


Dead: Gregory Erskine

Former City Engineer Gregory Erskine, 45, died this morning in an accident on the Perseverance Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).


Reports are that the accident occurred at about 07:15h and involved motorcar PZZ 9132, which 22-year-old Saramonie Ghansham drove, and motor lorry GSS 818 with trailer TXX 5072, which Lorris Barnes drove.

MTV News Update understands that Marx Wilson, 46, a Police Inspector Station at Eteringbang Regional Division 7, Okechukwu Geofrey, 42, and Erskine of Lodge, Georgetown were occupants of the motor lorry.


Reports are that motorcar PZZ 9132 was proceeding west along the southern side of the road at a fast rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a median, and ended up on the northern side of the road, where she crashed into the motor lorry.


As such, the driver of the motor lorry with the trailer lost control, collided with two utility poles, and ended up on a concrete fence on the northern side of the road.


As a result of the collision, both drivers and three occupants received injuries about their bodies. They were all assisted out of the vehicles by public-spirited citizens and rushed to Mahaicony Public Hospital, where they were all seen and examined by a doctor on duty.


However, at about 14:00h, Erskine succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital. His body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
