Five arrested after CANU intercepts vehicle with ganja
Five persons were arrested on Wednesday after ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) intercepted two motor vehicles with marijuana.
Reports are that CANU conducted an operation on Mandela Avenue, East Ruimveldt, in the vicinity of Trench Road, where the two motor vehicles were stopped.
A subsequent search of both motor vehicles in the presence of the drivers resulted in the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis.
Franklin Beresford, 33, of 55 Durban Street, Lodge, and Shawn Welch, 48, of Castello Housing Scheme, La Penitence, were arrested and escorted to CANU’s headquarters with the suspected ganja, which tested positive for cannabis.
The narcotics found in the motor vehicle bearing the licence plate number PZZ 3119 consisted of six parcels weighing a total of 1946 kilograms, and the narcotics found in the motor vehicle bearing the licence plate PAC 8606 consisted of one parcel weighing a total of 522 grams.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects, Shem Rishton, Kevin Barrow, and Quincy Punch. Investigations are ongoing.
