Farmer reportedly admits to burning, burying body of man, 22, electrocuted on his fence

A 59-year-old farmer of La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD), has reportedly admitted to disposing of the body of a 22-year-old man, who was electrocuted on the fence he had set up to deter thieves.

The victim, identified as 22-year-old Shaquille Jones of Bagotville, was allegedly trying to raid citrus farms with two others when the incident occurred in late November 2022.

MTV News Update understands that Jones’ friends reportedly witnessed his electrocution and saw the farmer remove his body. However, the crime was only reported over the weekend when one of the friends, a 16-year-old, gave a statement to the police.

The farmer reportedly told crime sleuths that he had set up an electric current on his farm to deter thieves but had turned it off. He claimed he found Jones hooked on the fence and, realising he was dead, moved the body to another location and burned it using tires.

The police recovered a skull and burnt bones from an area near the farmer’s property. The farmer was arrested and led the police to the location where the body was burned. They also found suspected human bones and burnt items, including clothing. The farmer is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
