Corentyne mechanic remanded on gun and ammo charges
32-year-old Nicosi Henry of Nurney Village, Corentyne Berbice, was remanded to prison on Thursday for allegedly possessing an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Renita Singh in the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
The allegations are that on October 24, at his home, he had one black .32 pistol in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.
He was also charged with having in his possession seven live .32 ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
According to reports, on the day in question, ranks in Berbice who were responding to a threatening behaviour report found the illegal gun and ammunition.
The police said that on arrival at the location, the ranks observed the 32-year-old man sitting aback a house on a dam. The man was approached by the ranks, who told him of the reason for their presence, during which a search was conducted on him.
The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Whim Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition, where he was told of the offence committed, arrested, and charged.
During his appearance in court, the accused was refused bail on both offenses, while the matter was adjourned until December 08, 2022.
