Constable under close arrest for fatally shooting Sergeant Vaughn
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has said that a Police Constable is under close arrest for “allegedly and unintentionally” fatally shooting Sergeant Alex Vaughn on Tuesday.
“Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken has since ordered a probe which is currently ongoing by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) and supervised by the Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority,” the Police Force said in a brief statement.
Based on reports, Sergeant Vaughn was shot at Karrau, Region Seven, while part of the joint service team that is on the hunt for convicted rapist Mark Wong, who escaped from prison last week.
Wong is the prime suspect in the double murder of Elizabeth ‘Nellie’ Gomes, 75, and her son, David Gomes, 49, both of D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, at Saxacalli, Essequibo River.
