Colleague confesses to strangling security guard, dumping body at sluice

Dead: Angraj Indrapaul

A colleague of 59-year-old Angraj Indrapaul, who was fished out of the Rose Hall pump station canal last Friday, has confessed to the crime.

Indrapaul, a Security Guard of Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice, was pulled out from the pump station canal after he was reported to have fallen over in a suspected accident while carrying out his duties.

Four days after Indrapaul’s body was discovered, the suspect, who is in his 20s, was arrested after a Post Mortem Examination (PME) revealed that the man was murdered.

Armed with this information, the Police contacted the colleague who worked with the deceased the night before, and he admitted to killing Indrapaul and dumping his body after realising that he was not breathing.

MTV News Update understands that the security guard and the accused had a misunderstanding, during which a scuffle ensued.

The suspect then armed himself with a metal rake to hit the deceased but was unsuccessful. As a result, he grabbed the man and choked him until he stopped breathing.

He then proceeded to dump the man’s body at the sluice’s mouth. The body was found at about 9:00h after family members launched a search party after he did not go home.

His daughter, Roshni Indrapaul, had told reporters that they found his haversack and footwear at his worksite during the search.

A source close to the investigation confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that the file is being prepared to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice so that charges could be laid against the accused.
