Close to 5,000 Guyanese to be awarded GOAL scholarships



The Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) scholarship programme was launched in 2021 aiming to provide 20,000 Guyanese with access to free advanced levels of education.


This means that the population will be more educated which results in better human resources capability.


This year over 6,000 Guyanese has registered under this platform to secure scholarships. More than half of that number of applicants were able to secure one.


This was revealed by GOAL’s Director Professor Jacob Opadeyi.


“This year we have over 6000 that have applied with close to 5,000 that are qualified. We have 187 programmes in about 13 universities this year.”


The names of these scholarship awardees will be announced in the next two weeks.

This year several new programmes were introduced. Among them are Master’s degree programmes in Criminology & Social Policy; Web Design and Development and Agile Methodologies.

Successful applicants can also read for doctorate degrees in Philosophy, Education, and Business.

Last year a total of 6,000 persons were awarded scholarships of which the vast majority were females. In budget 2022 a sum of $1.3billion was approved for this initiative.
