A Cashier attached to Nextlink Communications was on Friday charged and released on $200,000 bail for allegedly stealing over $1 million from her employer.

28-year-old Amrita Dharampaul of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD), denied the charge when it was read to her by Principal Magistrate Sherdell Issacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The charge stated that between September 08, 2021, and October 21, 2021, at Church Street Georgetown, while being employed with Nextlink Communication, she stole the total sum of $1,745,513 from the company.

MTV News Update understands that the woman, who was a Cashier, was assigned to a system to receive payments during her allotted working period when the company recognized that the funds were missing.

An audit was conducted, and further checks of the defendant’s system showed payments were being backdated.

Moreover, CCTV footage was reviewed, and the accused was reportedly seen placing the money in her jacket.

Dharampaul is expected to make another court appearance on May 20, 2022.
