A 50-year-old businessman lost his life on Sunday after a tree pinned him at Blue Mountain Backdam.

Dead is Kewin Nathaniel Allen of Lot 885 Angoy’s Avenue Berbice. The incident occurred at about 12:00h.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that Allen and his 20-year-old son operate a shop at the Backdam. According to the CCU, the two were in the house eating when they heard a loud wind.

“Subsequently, they heard the sound of a tree breaking from the top of the hill, and the deceased and his son decided to run out the shop, and the tree fell in the direction of the deceased, which pinned him,” the CCU said.

Persons in the area went to assist the man but were unsuccessful. Allen’s body was subsequently escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival.
