A number of persons across Guyana were greeted this morning with blackouts after a bus slammed into one of the Guyana Power & Light Incorporated (GPL) recently erected concrete pole at Sandy Babb Street and Vlissengen Road, triggering several feeders to trip.

According to GPL, the incident occurred at approximately 02:25h, and the outage affected customers in Region Three and sections of Georgetown.

Following an inspection of the concrete pole, GPL said that a team of technicians have isolated a section of the network to conduct remedial work.

The power company noted that most customers have been repowered, except those in close proximity to the area where the accident occurred.

“Once again, GPL implores road users to exercise extreme caution, especially during inclement weather conditions. Accidents of this nature cause unnecessary service disruptions to thousands of customers,” GPL concluded.
