Bribery charge against Cop dismissed as victim refuses to give evidence
Updated: May 27, 2022
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan has dismissed the charge against a Police Constable, who was accused of taking a bribe after the complainant refused to provide further evidence.
28-year-old Mario Parasram, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, was on trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
When the matter was called this morning, the complainant, Patris Petrie, told the court that he no longer wanted to proceed with the case. As such, the matter was dismissed.
It was alleged that between June 9 and July 6, 2021, at Georgetown, Parasram willfully attempted to pervert the course of justice by demanding $200,000 from Petrie to prevent the institution of a criminal charge against Petrie.
Parasram, a father of two, had pleaded not guilty to the charge on his first court appearance and was released on $100,000 bail. Attorney-at-law Bernard Da Silva represented him.
