Body of epileptic man fished out of Sophia’s trench


The body of 45-year-old Monella Hamer of Patterson Access Road, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, was on Monday fished out of a trench at Dennis Street between ‘C and D’ Fields Sophia.


The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said at about 13:00h, an anonymous call was received at Turkeyen Police Station, informing ranks of a motionless body in a trench at Dennis Street.


As a result, ranks were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the body of a male of African descent floating face down in the trench.


The body was fished out, and Marlon Hamer, who was present, identified it to be his brother Monella. At the time, the body was clad in a black jersey and grey shorts.


MTV News Update understands that Monella was last seen alive on May 05, 2024, at about 17:00h at his home, which is located near the trench. It is also claimed that the deceased suffered from Epilepsy.


Ranks processed the scene, and no marks of violence were seen on the body. The body is at Memorial Gardens' Funeral home awaiting post-mortem examination.
