Black Bush Polder farmer dies in Corentyne road accident



A Lesbeholden, Black Bush Polder family is left in a state of mourning following the death of a relative who was killed in an accident on the Corentyne highway on Wednesday.


The dead man has been identified as 35 year old Parmanand Budhu. He left his home just after midday to go purchase bramble for his farm when tragedy struck.


According to the police, at about 13:30 hrs, Budhu was struck down by motorcar PAC 960 which was being driven by a teenager on the Friendship Public Road Corentyne Berbice.


The motor car was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of the said road allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the pedestrian who just exited a car on the western side ran from the west to east across the road into the path of the motor car.


MTV News Update understands that the driver tried to avoid a collision but the left front portion of the motor car collided with the deceased. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by the driver and public spirited citizens and rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.



Brother of the deceased, Chetram Budhu said that he had just arrived home from working in the back dam when he was visited by a friend who informed him that his brother was killed in an accident. He said upon visiting the scene, the body had already been removed and taken to the hospital.


He said persons in the area told him that his brother was flung several feet in the air before landing on the road..


His body is presently at a funeral parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.


The teenage driver is currently in police custody assisting with the investigations.
