Ann's Grove minibus driver arrested for assaulting Police rank
Thirty-year-old Okemi Omali Harry was arrested Saturday for assaulting Lance Corporal Singh on the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police, in a statement, said that Lance Corporal Singh and Woman Constable Doris were on traffic duties on the Montrose Public Road, ECD, when they stopped minibus BAC 2287, which Harry was driving.
According to Police, the 30-year-old bus driver was told of the offence of speeding and asked to produce his driver's licence.
“While Lance Corporal Singh was in the process of writing the driver a ticket, the driver made attempts to take away his licence from Corporal Singh, who refused,” the Police noted.
As a result, the driver started to assault the Police rank. A mobile patrol responded, and the driver was subsequently arrested and placed into custody pending charges.
Only yesterday, two men seen in a widely circulated video assaulting a Police Officer were slapped with several charges.
