After over a year on the run, man wanted for Sand Hill murder arrested

L-R: Arrested: Shawn Thomas and dead Ray Narine

Shawn Thomas, who was wanted in connection with the murder of Ray Narine, who was killed in Sand Hill, Region Seven, in 2022, was apprehended by the Police on Friday, putting an end to his over-a-year evasion of the law.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that at about 13:30h on Friday, Narine’s father, who witnessed his murder, saw the suspect at a popular food outlet on Mandela Avenue, in Georgetown and alerted the Police. The Police responded immediately and arrested the suspect.

“The suspect has a commitment warrant for two years imprisonment for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition,” a statement from the GPF said.

In 2022, the Police issued a wanted bulletin for Thomas, also known as ‘Troy Richards,’ and his son Ackime Richards, also known as ‘Akeem,’ over the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Narine. It is unclear at this time if Ackime was ever arrested.

Reports are that Narine, of Spring Garden on the Essequibo Coast, was fatally wounded when Thomas and his son allegedly opened fire on him and his twin brother, Ron Narine, and a 30-year-old miner.

While Ray Narine was killed, his brother and the 30-year-old were wounded in the shooting.
