4-year-old drowns in Two Friends’ trench

Dead: Shane Samuels

The lifeless boy of a 4-year-old boy was pulled from the Two Friends trench on Saturday between 20:00h and 22:00h.

Dead is Shane Samuels of Two Friends Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that the boy’s mother 38-year-old Donell Adams, a vendor of Lot 41 Two Friends Village, ECD, had asked her sister Suella Adams, who shares a yard with her, to take care of her son while she was at work.

Reports are that at about 08:00h, Adams called her sister while at work and was told that her child was playing in the yard. The woman said she called again only to learn that the boy was missing.

Later, she got a call from a friend telling her they had found Shane’s bike close to a trench. His lifeless body was later removed from the trench by his uncle, Collin Chandler.

Upon arriving home, Donell observed her son’s motionless body on the ground next to Two Friends trench.

The matter was reported to the Clonbrook Police Outpost, and an investigation was launched.

The body of the 4-year-old was examined, but no marks of violence were found.

The child’s boy is currently at the Jerrick’s Funeral Home, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). Investigations are ongoing.
