$200,000 bail for teacher who attempted to bribe cop to release brother caught with ganja

Thirty-eight-year-old Seeranie Rameshwar, who is accused of attempting bribe a Police Officer to release her brother, who was caught with marijuana, was on Friday released on $200,000 bail.


Rameshwar, a teacher of Schoonord, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was arraigned before Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Wales Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty.


The charge against Rameshwar states that on June 21, 2022, at the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, she attempted to pervert the course of justice in a bid to forego criminal charges against Davanand Rambarran.


She was released on $200,000 bail, and the matter was adjourned to July 7, 2022.

MTV News Update previously reported that Rambarran, is Rameshwar sister.


On the day in question after he was seen by ranks handing another man a “black bulky plastic bag” containing marijuana.


Rambarran and the man were escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where they were placed into custody.


Later that day, the GPF said a woman visited the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station and offered a rank $300,000 to have the offence against Rambarran, withdrawn.


The money was collected, and she was subsequently arrested and placed into custody for attempting to pervert the course of justice. Rambarran is already out on $300,000 bail after being slapped with a narcotic trafficking charge.
