2-year-old girl drowns in Pomeroon River hours after being reported missing

A two-year-old girl was found dead in the Pomeroon River on Saturday afternoon after she was reported missing from her home at Kabakaburi Mission, Upper Pomeroon River.
Dead is Samirah Evans, 2, of Kabakaburi Mission. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred between 12:30 hours and 17:30 hours on March 7.
Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 12:30 hours, the child was at home with her mother when she was later discovered missing. Her disappearance prompted an immediate search by relatives and residents of the community.
According to police, the child’s body was discovered at around 17:30 hours, floating in the Pomeroon River in the vicinity of Warapana, approximately one mile from the Kabakaburi Mission landing.
The body was retrieved and taken to the Oscar Joseph Public Hospital, where a doctor on duty examined the child and pronounced her dead. The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
