Twelve-year-old Kayla Barnabas was killed today after being struck down by a Guyana Police Force (GPF) pickup, which was being driven by a Police Corporal on the Goed Fortuin Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Barnabas, a West Demerara Secondary School student, was killed at about 15:45h.
The GPF, in a statement, said that motor pickup GXX 6775 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road when it was alleged that the schoolgirl ran from east to west across the road and into the pickup's path.
The driver swerved west to avoid a collision, but the vehicle's front collided with the schoolgirl.
She was placed in a motor vehicle unconscious and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations are ongoing.
