On the 24th of January last, the Mayor and City Council approved an internal audit policy which now paves way for the body to be identified as independent.
According to City Mayor Ubraj Narine, this policy highlights the roles and key functions of this department since he noted
"what we had found when we took office internal auditor was signing as a witness on a contract which is not a good image for the council so we have the do and they don’t."
The objective of this audit is
"to assist members of the Mayor and City council in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by furnishing them with the analyzing recommendation and information concerning activities reviewed by and promoted effectively business practice to a cost and to accomplish its objective"
Mayor Narine explains that there was never any policy in place to govern this department and noted that "it was highly anticipated."
