The Guyana Police Force and Coast Guard are assisting river commuters across the Demerara River between Stabroek and Vreed-en-Hoop Water Taxi Landing. The Transport and Harbour and MARAD are also lending support.
Home Affairs Minister, Mr. Robeson Benn was at Stabroek Wharf overseeing and assessing the situation.
The water taxi operators this morning opted to strike which caused a massive build-up of traffic and left scores of commuters stranded.
Minister has reassured that should the disruption continue, other vessels will be brought in to assist commuters.
