BREAKING: Prison escapee Akeem Wong shot dead

Prison escapee Akeem Wong was fatally shot by ranks of the Joint Services at Goat Creek on Sunday.  

Wong, who was convicted of rape in 2020, escaped from the Mazaruni prison just over a month ago.

At the time of his escape, he and another inmate, Gilbert Gill, were labouring in the wood bush in the custody of Prison Officer Torres.

Wong asked to use the washroom, and Officer Torres granted him permission. However, about five minutes later, Officer Torres decided to check on Wong, and it was then that he discovered that he was missing. An alarm was raised.

He was also the prime suspect in the murder of David Gomes, a 49-year-old driver of D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, and 75-year-old Elizabeth ‘Nellie’ Gomes.

David and Elizabeth were earlier this month chopped to death while at Saxacalli Mission, Essequibo River.

Last week, Police Sergeant Alex Vaughn, who was part of the search party for Wong, was accidentally shot by one of his colleagues.
